Writing and Discourse: "Academic Writing and Discourse
The purpose of academic writing is to instruct students as to how to form logical aruguments which ultimately will be used when they are employed by the government (usually), so that they can write reasonable reports for why funding should be increased for a project etc.... So, basically, the goal is for the student to learn how to write a clear, reasonable and logical essay (which can be a model for report writing).
